Edina History
There is an enduring story that Edina was named after Edinborough by a Scottish man, Andrew Craik who bought the Mill. He was born in Edinborough, so he named the Mill after his hometown, so the story goes.
In this myth, there were two warring factions--the Irish Cahill community and the Scottish Mill community--both who wanted to name the village after their respective heritages.
In truth, there were very few Scottish people in Edina at the time, and the name was actually backed by non-Scottish people for no apparent reason. The name that was proposed and actually accepted was 'Westfield'. Some people preferred Edina, there was a vigorous debate, and Edina finally carried the day.
